Redheads Crafty Chat
Eight years and two days ago I recieved a happy mail package from my wonderful friend Amanda. I don't quite recall the whole contents of the box, but I do remember the amazing knitted cup cozies that were included. I met Amanda once upon a time on the day my sister moved into her first college dorm. Amanda was living down hall and I was the annoying little sister who introduced herself to everyone. Flash forward 5 years to my own college move in. Amanda was living with her husband in my building as a masters student! Amanda would attend residence hall events with her knitting in hand. She was a new knitter then, proclaiming that it was very fulfilling. Over the next couple of years, I became friends with Amanda over movie recommendations, residence hall activities, and craft projects. When we visited Amanda and Mike after they moved to the NYC area, I was amazed at all of the fabulous knitted projects Amanda had finished! She encouraged me to find my own knitting zen. When they attended Dean and mine's wedding the next year, they brought us hand knitted dish towels and beautiful words during our ceremony. A few months later, Dean started medical school and I quickly realized I needed a hobby to keep me busy while Dean studied. Enter happy mail with cup cozies. I gushed over these cozies and decided that I too could knit amazing things and spread happiness throughout the world. So on Sept 4th, 2010 I picked up my needles for the very first time and made the ugliest lacy neck scarf ever over the next 2 weeks. I haven't stopped using yarn and needles to create since that day. Amanda is truly my inspiration to knit. I'm so grateful that she became a part of my life all those years ago.
